A change of tack?
It appears that the Dept of Health might be relenting on its previous strategy of forcing people to store their records on the NCRS Spine.
A report in the Guardian claims that patients will now be able to opt out from having their information uploaded. At this stage however there is still plenty of time for further changes to policy & I do not yet consider this a victory for privacy advocates. Also a reminder that the recommended approach is to opt-in.
In other news, junior health minister Lord Warner who is considered a “safe pair of hands” is to step down but all concerned deny any association with the failures of the CfH boondongle.
The British Computing Society has come out with a report advocating what appears to be a sensible strategy of a virtual national network of records services.
And observers will note the sense of deja-vu engendered by the operating framework for the NHS in England for 2007-2008.
